Shire Oak and international education International education has been an integral part of National Curriculum Citizenship since its conception. Shire Oak has delivered classroom based work in Citizenship and in other subjects such as Geography but when opportunities arose to forge links with other schools around the world they were adopted eagerly so that classroom theory could become practical. In the last 5 years Shire Oak has forged links with two schools in Ghana, one in Tanzania and two in Zimbabwe. The projects between the schools have been many and varied, preparing materials for nurseries, swopping traditional recipes, sharing stories and musical traditions. Highlights of the links have been staff exchanges which have happened in 2007 and 2008. So what next ? The links with Africa will continue and strengthen. For 2009 another exchange visit is being planned. Closer to home Shire Oak has welcomed a number of pupils from Eastern Europe and we hope to establish links with their former schools in the future. Shire Oak already has the British Council International Award Intermediate. In the Autumn we will find out if we have been awarded FULL International status. |
