Higher Universities Access Scheme

Running alongside the G&T provisions at Shire Oak is the Higher Universities Access Scheme. This scheme has been developed to aid the performance and aspirations of a small group of pupils in years 10-13.

The HUAS initiative at Shire Oak has the following aims;

  • To encourage pupils to achieve their potential at both Key stage 4 and 5.
  • For pupils to aspire to attend a top university post sixth form.
  • To provide an enrichment activity once a term designed to widen the experiences of the pupils on the scheme.

Each of the pupils on the scheme is placed on an Individual Education Plan (IEP) to see how their individual needs can be met both inside and outside of the classroom. This IEP is reviewed on a termly basis with the pupil, a member of staff and parents to make sure pupils are on track to achieve their potential.

In addition, pupils on the HUAS scheme are invited to participate in a variety of enrichment activities to broaden their experience whilst at school. In the past the HUAS group have visited a variety of places including, Oxford University and the Symphony Hall in Birmingham.
