Edgmond Hall

Forty two Gifted and Talented students from years 7-12 met for a weekend of subject based enrichment activities.  The venue was Edgmond Hall in Newport, Shropshire.  The weekend aimed to promote team building, social skills and thinking skills through a series of activities provided by the staff from the hall, Shire Oak staff and visitors.

All activities were based around mathematics, history and science.

Read the views of our students and then find out more about each day's activities.

he weekend was really fab. We had a really fun time and learnt that learning really can be fun. We arrived on Friday afternoon and from that moment the fun started. We settled in really nicely and nobody was left out. We had to make our own beds and that was a bit of a struggle for some. The first meal was a jacket potato – a really great choice. All of the food was gorgeous.

enjoyed the residential weekend with my friends and all of the other people who I may not have known but have got to know over the course of 3 days.
The activities encouraged us to mix and work together. Getting the man from outside school to visit on Sunday morning was an excellent idea and very interesting. I have benefited a lot from this experience.

enjoyed spending time with people who are most like me and having fun as well as an educational slant.
The Corporal who visited brought a “breath of fresh air” to a lazy Sunday morning.
Escaping from urban life, electronics and laziness for the weekend was great.

he weekend was heart filling. Not only do you learn a lot about others and work but you also learn about yourself. It’s fun and you learn in a way you don’t realize until afterwards. Learning gives you great opportunities and that’s what helps you through life. That is what the weekend does – gives you opportunities.
